Coachella Valley Community Research Initiative

Description

To improve the lives of long-term HIV/AIDS survivors and those impacted by this disease, by fostering supportive, educational resources and conducting research for those with lived experience and the healthcare providers, experts, and friends who care for them.

Positively aging project. The 10th annual positively aging project symposium was conducted on September 20, 2025 with guest speaker and activist, author, and artist, mary fisher whose speech at the 1992 republican convention is considered one of the top 100 speeches ever given in the United States that focused on the face of HIV in the United States. As an HIV/AIDS activist, fisher has traveled throughout the world giving insight on the HIV crisis and is the face of multiple charitable organizations through her private foundation.

The first annual self-avocacy in healthcare conference brought together both the HIV and the greater coachella valley communities on April 19, 2025, for a day-long conference regarding healthcare in the coachella valley; with professional patient advocate tamara porter, dr. Leo moore, attorneys and doctors to discuss practical ways patients and doctors can work together to ensure the best care possible. Participants left with a healthcare journal to guide them through doctors appointments, emergency care, long-term care, and after-life planning.
