Healthy Heart Community Prevention Project
Description
To promote heart health and to eliminate disparities associated with cardiovascular disease in vulnerable communities. We aim to improve public health of communities by providing reliable and accessible health educational resources, community programs, engaging in community-based participatory research and collaborative partnerships, advocating for community empowerment and self-determination, and assisting with program development and training.
The hhcpp provided funding to develop a flu ready nola campaign in January 2024 for one month. With the assistance and coordination of a pr firm to promote educational and public messages of the benefits of flu vaccines to prevent illness, hospitalization, and even death. The firm developed various creatives such as graphics, videos, digital billboards in prominent locations within the city of New Orleans, social media, radio,tv interviews, and physician directed educational videos on local and cable networks with a reach extending throughout the state of Louisiana.
The hhcpp partnered with the friends of joe brown park to provide bp screening to their walkers following the program at New Orleans east hospital and also to disseminate heart healthy educational information. Dr. Keith c ferdinand, president and board member of the hhcpp lectured to participants the importance of preventing cardiovascular disease and to practice lifestyle behaviors to reduce heart disease conditions. The hhcpp enlisted medical students from tulane school of medicine to measure 100 participant blood pressures at the end of the walk. Referrals were provided as needed.
