Mana Olana Pink Paddlers
Description
To cultivate hope, health, fitness, and fun for cancer survivors and their supporters through outrigger canoe paddling and other programs.we aim to aid and support cancer patients to health and recovery throughout their cancer journey through our myriad of programs, community outreach, and fundraising efforts.
Paddling program – our paddling program is at the heart of our mission by supporting cancer patients and survivors in integral ways. Two to three community paddles take place each week, averaging 36 paddlers a day. Paddling on our maui ocean waters provides a deeply healing experience. We have successfully built a fleet of seven pink canoes including three double-hull canoes. Chemotherapy reduces muscle strength and frequently causes fatigue.
Waves of hope cancer assistance program – cancer patients often report depression, anxiety, and fatigue. They fear recurrence or even death. They worry about prohibitive medical expenses. Mana’olana established the waves of hope cancer assistance program in December 2019 to help reduce financial stress for maui’s cancer patients. The program is administered by a five-member volunteer committee with extensive experience in project management, business, nonprofits, and health services.
