Sustainable Cardiovascular Health Equity Alliance
Description
SCHEDA was founded with the mission to help reduce morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease, especially from coronary artery disease, structural heart disease and peripheral vascular disease, in underserved low- and middle-income populations globally. We achieve our aspirations by supporting the: Building Autonomous and Sustainable Interventional Cardiovascular Capacity; Increased Access to Specialized Interventional Cardiovascular Patient Care; Screening, Awareness, Education and Training; and Funding the Journey towards Sustainable Cardiovascular Care.
Improving care through access to diagnostic imaging: Teleradiology: up to 400 cases reviewed via the CMRAD platform for clinical second opinion and/or education – EFSTH: Due to anticipated IT infrastructure not yet being in place to start the remote teaching for the Residency training program and the clinical second opinion service, this activity was postponed. – MRCG: 116 clinical cases were uploaded to the CMRAD platform and reviewed by volunteer WWR experts for clinical care.
Point of Care Ultrasound Training: The crucial initiative aims to enhance the diagnostic capabilities of medical professionals in The Gambia and improve access to care. The training program focuses on diagnosing heart and lung conditions. SCHEDA is training the providers to use Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), a convenient diagnostic tool that is increasingly being employed in hard-to-reach communities because of its portability. POCUS can assess patients wherever they are located.
